Khardaha is a town located in the Barrackpore division of Kolkata in West Bengal. This ancient city comes under the area of Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority. Khardaha is believed to be visited Sri Nityananda Prabhu. It is believed that he entered this town once in a boat of Hay which is known as “Khar” in Bengali and as “Daha” stands for water bodies so the town got its name from it. Geography of Khardaha

Situated at the geographical coordinates of 22.72°N 88.38°E, the town has an average attitude of 15m (49 ft). Khardaha is located on the Sealdah-Ranaghat section, between Sodepur to the south side and Titagarh to the north side. Specifically, the rail station on which it is situated, its western side is known as Khardahaa and the other eastern side is known as Rahara. Also, this city is just 20 km from the Kolkata city center. Khardaha’s western side is occupied with ancient settlement while the eastern side which is known as Rahara is said to have setteled recently. This eastern side was used to be a dense forest some 200 years earlier. Then, this side was given this name after the known Portuguese dacoit “Rada” of the late 17th century, actually pronunciation of that is Raw-ra. Khardaha, being located on the Sealdah-Ranaghat section, is just 19 km from Sealdah Station, which is situated on the Sealdah-Naihati section of Eastern Railways.
